
The United States’ biggest source for vehicle buying details, Kelly Blue Book, has released their quarterly survey on the preferences of new automobile buyers. Though the study is not done scientifically, it is considered relatively authoritative. The results of this survey reveal the effects of negative press, and show a big shakeup in preferences. Shoppers ranked durability and reliability, driving comfort, fuel efficiency, driving performance and safety as the top five essential factors when buying for a new vehicle.
The top spot – Ford
At this time last year, Toyota held the top position. This quarter, the Kelly Blue Book survey shows that 29 percent of new car buyers are considering Ford vehicles. In the next few years, truck sales are expected to increase considerably, which is supported with this current statistic.
Number 2 spot – Toyota
Toyota motors are showing the effects of numerous safety recalls over the last year. 22 percent of people looking at purchasing a new auto are nevertheless thinking about a Toyota, even though those safety problems are well-known. This strong showing is partially due to the high fuel efficiency of the automobiles.Toyota vehicles are also having a great showing because of the particularly successful “Swagger Wagon” campaign.
Third – Chevrolet
21 percent of new-car buyers are considering a Chevrolet for their new car. This could be attributed in part to the upcoming release of the Volt, though the hefty price tag is likely scaring just as many buyers away. The reputation for safety in Chevrolet cars is a big part of the reason this brand did so well.
Fourth – Honda
With dual reputation of reliability and fuel savings, Honda is doing very well on the list. .
Hyundai sneaks into fifth place
South Korean carmaker Hyundai ousted competitor Nissan for the fifth place this year. Well-known fuel sippers, Hyundai automobiles are being considered by 13 percent of vehicle buyers.
