The east coast of the United States of America is being hit by the remnants of Tropical Storm Nicole, which has begun to break up after causing flooding within the Caribbean and also the recent Jamaica mudslides. The storm has already dropped done a foot of rain, and triggered the North Carolina flooding that is currently ongoing. North Carolina has a state of emergency declared by the Governor. Other flood warnings are in effect. You will find flooding watches from the Carolinas to Maine. The possibility of a tornado touching down is significant in the region as well. So far, the 2010 hurricane season was somewhat light on the mainland. These are the most significant effects felt thus far.
Carolina floods
The governor of North Carolina, Beverly Purdue, has announced a state of emergency, according to Cable News Network. Tropical Storm Nicole is dying off after passing Jamaica and Cuba. Sadly, it is hitting the U.S. coast first. The storm caused the Jamaica mudslides, which recently killed two people. Floods started after the state got more than a foot of rain in just three days time. The East Coast is expected to be battered by rain, as up to 8 inches is expected to fall by Saturday, Oct. 2. 15 inches of rain has already hit Wilmington, North Carolina. Roads in that area are almost inaccessible.
Being worried about seeing tornadoes
There is a strong possibility of a tornado breaking out someplace on the East Coast due to Tropical Storm Nicole. New Jersey has started a twister watch. Apparently everywhere from Carolina to Maryland is monitoring and hoping nothing happens. . Everyone in New York is worried the subway system could get flooded if New York sees flooding.
Season not done to date
The hurricane season for 2010 won’t be ending soon. It goes all the way until the end of November still. In previous years, there are much worse issues within the U.S. There was a little rain with Hurricane Igor and Hurricane Earl that everybody expected to really hurt the country. The remaining parts of Tropical Storm Nicole should pass before Sunday Night Football is over.
